Polycom VVX 300 Series

This guide covers the Polycom VVX 300-series phones, tho it is also applicable to other VVX-series phones (such as the 400-series).

Contents

CONFIGURATION

1. Access the Web Configuration Utility

Connect the phone to a network with a DHCP server and wait for it to boot to the main interface. This typically takes about 1-2 minutes. Depending on the firmware version the phone has your IP may be displayed once it boots.
You can always access the current IP information by going to the following location in the menu:

 Home (Button) -> Settings -> Status -> Network -> TCP/IP Parameters

Once you've obtained the phone's IP address, use your favorite web browser (Chrome/Firefox recommended) and visit the following address:

https://<phone IP Address>/

The default admin login password is '456'. If everything goes as planned, you should be looking at a page that looks similar to below.

2. Configure NTP Settings

While not strictly required, it's a good idea to setup your backup NTP settings in case your DHCP server does not provide time service information. You can set this by going to the following location in the menu (red highlighted sections):

 Simple Setup -> Time Synchronization

When finished, click "Save" at the bottom of the page.

'

3. Configure SIP Settings'

Begin the SIP configuration by going to the following menu location (red highlighted sections):

 Settings -> Lines

VVX311-Lines-Menu.png

You should now be on the "Line 1" configuration screen. Each line button you want to use will need to be configured individually but all should generally require the same settings. This example will show you what was required for this specific setup but your requirements may vary.

For each section listed below, you will need to enter this information (red highlighted sections):

"Identification" section:

 • Display Name (This is your Outbound Caller ID name.) (See the requirements below)
 • Address (Your main/sub account name)
 • Label (The name listed next to the Line button on the phone)
 • SRTP settings should all be set to "No"
 • Server Auto Discovery should be "Disabled" since this is not used

IMPORTANT for Display Name:
  - We suggest entering your outbound Caller ID Name must be in capital letters. This will appears more clearly/visible on some devices.
  - You must NOT use any special characters, they will not be displayed.
  - Enter a max of 15 characters. Some of regular Canadian providers will not show more than 15 characters max. We suggest shrinking or adapt your caller ID.
  - Spaces are allowed in a caller id name.

"Authentication" section:

 • Use Login Credentials should be "Disabled"
 • Domain (Leave blank)
 • User ID (Your main/sub account name)
 • Password (Your main/sub account password)

"Server 1" section:

 • Address (Your selected VoIP.ms SIP server FQDN or IP address)
 • Port (5060)
 • Transport (UDPOnly)
 • Expires (300, your value may depend on your gateway/router timeout values but this is typically fine)
 • Subscription Expire(s) (300, same as Expires)

"Message Center" section:

 • Callback Mode (Contact)
 • Callback Contact (*97 to dial the assigned extension's VM box)

When finished, click "Save" at the bottom of the page.

4. Restart and Verify Operation

To make sure that the settings take effect, I recommend you "restart" the phone by going to:

 Utilities -> Restart Phone

When prompted, click "Yes".

Once your phone reboots, your display should show the phone online, the registration status section on VoIP's Control Panel should show registered and you should be able to make/receive calls.

Configuring a Voice line using TLS

NOTE: This section is optional. It explains in detail how to use encrypted traffic in the device. If you are not certain about how encrypted traffic works, or the benefits of encrypting SIP traffic, please contact technical support for more information.

These devices are compatible with TLS, however, some settings need to be adjusted to have it working. This section will be assuming that your SIP account is already enabled to use TLS, if you have not enabled it yet, please follow these instructions before going further:

For more information on how to enable encrypted traffic for the main account, please click on Main account or more information on how to enable encrypted traffic for the sub-account sub account

Settings to change

In order to use TLS/call encryption with VVX 300, 400 IP phones, you'll need to modify the following parameters accordingly after following the configuration guidelines provided above. Please note that this is only available for some devices.

Under Settings > Lines use the following values:

Enable SRTP: Yes
Offer SRTP: Yes
Require SRTP: Yes
Server 1
Port: 5061
Transport: TLS
