IP Address Discovery or Configuration

The purpose of this section is to be able to contact the Mediatrix 4102's web interface to start with unit configuration. Once the physical connection is complete, you will need to power on the Mediatrix 4102 and find out the IP address it is using. The Mediatrix 4102's IP address can be set either dynamically or statically. The default behavior of the Mediatrix 4102 is to try to obtain a dynamic IP address through a DHCP server.

Connecting the Mediatrix Unit Using a DHCP Server

Before proceeding:

1. Ensure that your network connection is functional.
2. Use an IPv4 Network.
3. The IPv4 Network must have a DHCP server.
4. If your unit lacks an FXS port or you can't access the DHCP server's logs, utilize the Connecting the Mediatrix Unit Using a Static IP address procedure.
Steps:
1. Wear an ESD wrist strap, ensuring it is properly grounded to bare skin.
2. Attach the ESD wrist strap end to an earth ground (an unpainted bare metal spot of a grounded equipment rack).
3. Ensure the circuit breakers of AC power sources powering the Mediatrix unit are switched OFF.
4. Connect the provided external Power Adapter to the DC connector of the Mediatrix unit and plug it into an appropriate AC electrical outlet.
5. Connect a 10/100 BaseT Ethernet RJ-45 cable into the WAN connector of the Mediatrix unit.
6. Connect the other end of the cable to a router/switch connected to your network.
7. Validate the installation.
8. Turn ON the AC power sources powering the Mediatrix unit at the circuit breaker.

Note: If condensation occurs when the unit is brought from a cold to a warm environment, wait for one hour before connecting the power cord. If you have an FXS port, dial *#*0 to obtain the IP address or consult the DHCP server's logs.

Result: The Power LED on the unit will flash during the DHCP server query and become solid once it successfully acquires an IP address. You can now use the DHCP IP address to access your unit's management interface.

Default Static IP Address Configuration

If there is no DHCP server in your network, configuring the IP address statically is necessary.
1. Using a 10/100 Hub and two 10/100 BaseT Ethernet RJ-45 straight cables, connect both cables to the Hub. One cable should be connected to the WAN connector, and the other should link the computer to the Hub.
2. Reconfigure your computer's IP address to 192.168.0.10 and set the Subnet Mask to 255.255.255.0. Restart your computer.
3. Power on the Mediatrix 4102 by connecting the power cord's other end to an electrical outlet. Ensure the electrical outlet is installed near the Mediatrix 4102 for easy access.
4. Insert a small, unbent paper clip into the Reset/Default hole located at the rear of the Mediatrix 4102. The Power LED will begin blinking, and after a few seconds, all LEDs will start blinking. Release the paper clip after all LEDs start blinking but before they stop blinking (between 7-11 seconds). This action constitutes a partial reset. After a partial reset, the Mediatrix 4102 will use the default IP address 192.168.0.1/24. Refer to the Hardware Configuration Guide, Chapter Powering on the Mediatrix 4102, for detailed instructions on the partial reset procedure.
5. Proceed to access the Mediatrix 4102 web interface.
