Considering the global outbreak, working from home has become the new norm in order to accommodate with the current confinement. One of the most critical part of teleworking is productivity. If you are not used to working at home, it can take some time to get used to new challenges that you might not have at the office, after all, you are in your personal space, not your usual professional environment, with so many distractions your productivity can be affected. 1. Find a Clean Space

The first point to consider is to set up a clean work from home space that is as comfortable and functional as possible. Find an area with minimum traffic flow or a corner of a room off from the main area. A clean working space can be defined as something that will keep you away from distraction and allows you to receive good natural light. Have a sufficient amount of lighting in your workspace to reduce strain on your eyes. Setting up your workspace near a window can certainly help.

2. Try to Have a Good Chair to Work

Many workers were forced to work from their homes overnight and not all have a proper working chair at home with a good ergonomic seat to work. Look around your home to match up a suitable chair and table which lets you work at your computer without hunching over. Look for the most comfortable one that offers arm and back support. You can also make use of cushions or pillows to get the desire ergonomic.

3. Watch Out for Your Posture

At times you will prefer to work from the comfort of your bed or sofa with your laptop. However, it can severely impact your body posture leading to back pain, headaches and other discomforts. Also, if the surface you are working on is too high or low, you will start to feel discomfort in your elbows, wrist, neck and other parts of your body. Your wrists and elbows should be at the same level, with most of your forearms supported by the armrests of your chair. Your lower legs should form a 90-degree angle at the knees. Your back should be between 100 and 135 degrees in relation to your legs (if possible). Your eyes should be able to view the screen comfortably without having to stretch, crane, or strain your neck or your eyes. Here comes the creative part so you can adapt your workspace to feel as comfortable as possible and helps you maintain a correct posture(!).

4. Take Breaks In Between

Do not forget to relax. It is important to take breaks in between long working hours. If you must constantly remind yourself about taking breaks, schedule them into your calendar. Take a walk inside your house, refill your water bottle and try to do some stretching. A breath of fresh air will boost your productivity. You do not need to look at your laptop screen constantly throughout the day.

5. Minimize Distractions

Working from home it is not entirely easy if you live with family members or if you have pets. Interruptions and drop-ins can cause you to lose your focus, procrastinate or get behind on a deadline. Notify others that during at-home work hours you are unavailable and cannot be interrupted. Therefore, it is important to minimize distractions by working in a quiet and traffic-free space to concentrate effectively. Do not set up your workspace around TV or living space to minimize distractions as much as possible.
